The challenge

TLN acts as a middleman between patients, insurers, and Lactation Consultants (LCs). The company saw a gap in the market that had LCs rely on multiple outdated and expensive solutions to acquire reimbursement from insurers.

The solution

The team designed a cloud-based EMR application tailored to Lactation Consultants and their patients. The tool streamlines the completion of the revenue cycle, increases the number of LC visits, and promotes affordable care for happy parents.

TLN pioneered electronic charting according to lactology best practices. The chart includes 500+ nested fields for prenatal and postpartum consultations. LCs can import data from the patient's profile, with all relevant information saved automatically for later visits.

This data allows LCs to quickly generate all necessary documents for insurers, patients, and physicians. A consultant can preview the PDF before sending it to insurers, and fix any errors with an addendum note.

Two-way Salesforce
integration

Streamlining data flow between consultants, patients, and insurers required a Salesforce integration. This CRM wasn't originally designed for medical practice. The team had to add new entities, complex data mapping, and ensure HIPAA compliance.

CRM integration streamlines lactation revenue cycle management. It frees patients and consultants from having to interact with insurers for coverage. This results in monetary savings and a higher number of repeat LC visits.

Telehealth and live chat

TLN patients can choose between offline and online consultations. For this purpose, we integrated the system with Twilio. It includes Google Meet-like telehealth, screen & file sharing, and real-time chat with a full communication history.

Users can track all important messages with in-app and push notifications. The integration provides an on-brand look and complies with all HIPAA requirements at no additional fees.

Individual and group practice management

Lactation consultancies can create group accounts with up to five user roles and different permissions. Their LCs can view patient information, upcoming and past visits, and monetary compensation. All data is exportable as PDF or Excel documents.

Patients can select from a variety of consultants and lactation practices. If necessary, information from previous visits is accessible to parents and employers.

Quick registration

We built a complex sign-up flow within the EMR to move away from external WordPress forms. This removed data duplication and allowed users to save all information without submitting a form.

The system includes an AI parser for insurance documents that speeds up registration. Once the form is submitted, the EMR pairs the user with the best available consultant in the area and adds all data to the Salesforce CRM and Enterprise Service Layer.

TLN features valuable resources for young parents and experienced consultants. Users can search for articles with convenient filters and receive notifications about new publications.

Admins can easily create new resources with a built-in content management system. It features article preview, document attachments, and role-based access rights. With every major update, admins can request additional consents through notification popups that require user action.

Strong password enforcement; multifactor authentication with AWS Cognito.
Role-based access control with AWS Organizations for centralized management.
The least privilege principle that limits access rights to only what is strictly required.
System logs to record all transactions with PHI.
Encryption of credentials and ePHI at rest and in transit using secure AWS services and TLS connection.
Forced HTTPS on all pages by default.
Automated renewal of SSL/TLS certificates from reputable authorities.
Digital signatures and other tamper-detection capabilities to detect any data alterations in storage or transmission.
Secure cloud configuration and network measures like firewalls.
Regular backups with encryption to prevent data loss.
Secure management of encryption keys using AWS KMS; automated key rotation and deletion.

Offline mode

Patients require care, even during outages. TLN prevents the loss of critical information with an offline mode. The app supports asynchronous consultations and charting.
